Russo Brothers Hint At Disney+ Marvel Heroes Starring In Avengers Movies?
With the upcoming “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars” films set to hit cinemas in 2026 and 2027, many fans have been speculating on what characters we could see return to close out the multiverse saga.
We already know that Robert Downey Jr will be returning, but not as Iron Man, but instead as Doctor Doom, along with the Fantastic Four and Doctor Strange. It’s also expected that many of the biggest heroes like Thor, Spider-Man and Hulk are going to return as well.
Over the past few years, we’ve seen many new Marvel characters introduced in the Disney+ series, such as She-Hulk, Kate Bishop and Ms Marvel, many of which have already jumped from the small screen onto the big screen.
We’ve already seen some characters who debuted in Disney+ shows already appear in some movies, including Kate Bishop and Ms Marvel in “The Marvels” and “US Agent” will appear in the upcoming “Thunderbolts” film. There are also other heroes and villains from the movies that have appeared in Disney+ shows, such as Captain America, Kang, The Winter Soldier, Yelena, Hulk, Baron Nemo, Vision, Scarlet Witch and Loki.
During a recent interview with TechRadar to promote the new Netflix film, “The Electric State”, the Russo Brothers were asked if characters from the Disney+ Marvel shows will appear in the upcoming “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars” movies.
In terms of what we’re drawing on for our storytelling, we take the comprehensive view of the MCU. So, without getting into anything more specific than that, this is the universe we’re telling a story within. You can read into that what you like.
Other characters who could potentially leap from Disney+ shows to movies include Moon Knight, Wiccan, and She-Hulk, especially as some recent concept art that was leaked onto the internet showed many characters from the Disney+ shows.
However, Marvel is going to try to keep details of who’s going to appear in the upcoming “Avengers” films quiet, especially the cameos, so they can bring some big surprises for audiences when the movie comes out in cinemas, like in “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and “Deadpool & Wolverine”. The Russos have also said they will be taking extra precautions to avoid leaks getting out.
Roger’s Take: The characters introduced through Disney+ shows have already made the leap onto the big screen and that was always part of Marvel’s grander plan. However, with the lackluster box office results of “The Marvels” and “Captain America: Brave New World”, many are speculating that audiences aren’t going to see movies based on TV characters. I do think having some of the Disney+ heroes acting as supporting characters, like Ms Marvel, alongside the more established heroes will work, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the upcoming Avenger movies focus primarily on characters originally introduced in the films.
