Disney has announced that its live-action movie, “Oz: The Great and Powerful,” will soon be available to Disney+ subscribers in the United States.

Disney’s fantastical adventure follows Oscar Diggs, a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics. When Diggs is hurled away to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot…until he meets three witches, who aren’t convinced he’s the great wizard everyone’s expecting. Reluctantly drawn into epic problems facing Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it’s too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity and even some wizardry, Oscar transforms himself into the great wizard and a better man as well.

The movie stars James Franco, Michelle Williams, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, Zach Braff, Bill Cobbs, Joey King, Tony Cox, Stephen Hart, Abigail Leigh Spencer, Bruce Campbell, Ted Raimi, Tim Holmes, Toni Wynne, and Rob Crites.

This prequel to the classic story has been directed by Sam Raimi and executive produced by Grant Curtis, Philip Steuer, Palak Patel, and Josh Donen.

“Oz: The Great and Powerful” has been available on Disney+ in many countries since the streaming service initially launched; however, due to a licensing deal with Starz, it’s been unavailable in the United States.

The movie will be available on Disney+ in the United States on Friday, 29th November 2024, which ironically is just a week after the new live-action version of the hit musical, “Wicked” is released in cinemas by Universal.
