Later this year, Marvel Animation is going to release the third and final season of the hit series, “What If?”, which flips the script on the MCU, reimagining famous events from the films in unexpected ways. 

The series features an incredible voice cast that includes a host of stars who reprise their iconic roles. 

Last year, following the release of the season finale of the second season, Disney released a sneak peek clip from the upcoming third season featuring The Winter Soldier and Red Guardian in a car chase.   Plenty of other characters from the MCU will also be appearing in the new series including Sam Wilson, Shang Chi, and Monica Rambeau.

Not too much is known about the new series, but we do know that the unique nature of this series allows the creators to tell different stories, which will include a musical episode, one featuring large Gundam-style robots and much more.

Disney has released a new promotional video highlighting what’s coming to Disney+ in the year ahead, confirming that the new season will premiere on Disney+ on December 22nd 2024, with a new episode dropping daily over the Christmas period.

This new series is being produced by Alex Scharf and Matt Chauncey, who also serves as Head of Story for the third seasons of “What If…?”.

Roger’s Take:  This series is one of my favourites because it allows Marvel to explore the multiverse, but because it’s in animation, they can push the boundaries far beyond what we’re used to seeing.   It’s a shame that the show is coming to a close after three seasons, though we’ve got the spin-off show, “Marvel Zombies”, coming in October 2025, but in reality, Marvel is looking to wrap up the Multiverse saga as soon as possible, and while the idea of bringing in the Hollywood stars to connect this show to the films, that’s expensive!  So It’s logical as to why this show is coming to an end.

The first two seasons of “What If?” are available to stream now on Disney+.
