Back at the Marvel Studios presentation at the San Diego Comic-Con in 2022, it was revealed that Charlie Cox would be returning as Daredevil in a brand new series for Disney+ called “Daredevil: Born Again”.   Vincent D’Onofrio was also announced as returning to our screens as the Kingpin.

It was initially announced that the series would arrive on Disney+ in 2023 and have eighteen episodes, unlike other Disney+ Marvel shows, which typically have only six episodes.

Originally, the new show was pitched to audiences as being a little different from the former Netflix series; while it would see some of the original cast back, it wouldn’t be a direct revival, and it seems Marvel was planning on using the Multiverse to explain the differences.

Following the return of Bob Iger as the CEO of Disney, we saw Marvel scaling back on the amount of content it was making to save money, improve quality, and reduce the impact of franchise fatigue, along with the actors’ and writers’ strikes, production on the series was halted last summer.

However, during the strikes, the show went through some major creative restructuring, and a decision was made to turn it into a revival of the original series that debuted on Netflix.   Many other actors from the original series, including Jon Bernthal, Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson, are also returning as their characters.

There has also been a shift away from the original plan of a much longer season, as the first season will now just consist of nine episodes, which are currently scheduled to arrive on Disney+ in March 2025.

According to Industry Insider, Daniel Richtman, filming on the second season of “Daredevil: Born Again” is expected to begin filming this fall, with production to continue until mid-2025.  So it’s likely we won’t see the second season arrive on Disney+ until 2026 or even 2027.

Disney will need to be careful during the filming of the second season, as we saw many spoiler images leak online while Marvel was making the show on the streets of New York.   Especially since the first season won’t have hit Disney+ by then.

Marvel Studios is likely to give fans a look at the new “Daredevil” series at one of its upcoming presentations at either the San Diego Comic-Con or D23: Ultimate Fan Event this summer.

Roger’s Take:  This show has gone through many creative changes, and I hope the first season will align with the plans for the second. Hopefully, if the show is a success, Marvel can continue to bring us stories involving these characters.  More importantly, “Daredevil” seems to be a better fit for Disney+ with a more grounded street-level hero story, which requires much less special effects and will be cheaper to produce.  Marvel is planning on making more shows with multiple seasons and I don’t see why “Daredevil” can’t be one of those.
