Marvel’s “Blade” Loses Another Writer & Might Be Delayed Again
Way back at the San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, Marvel Studios announced it was going to create a brand new film featuring Blade, which will star Mahershala Ali as the vampire hunter. Since then, there have been multiple delays to the film’s release, which is currently scheduled for November 7th 2025.
Originally, the film was going to be released in cinemas on November 3rd 2023, but it’s gone through many changes in the creative team. The movie has also gone through two directors, as Bassam Tariq was originally going to direct “Blade”, but he left the project to be replaced by Yann Demange.
There have also been at least six writers involved in the project since its initial announcement; Stacy Osei-Kuffour is one of the writers to work on the script and was later replaced by Michael Green.
However, according to industry insider Daniel RPK, Michael Green has also now left the project and some more writers have been brought on to make some significant revisions to include a new male villain. Though, Marvel has apparently got the general story locked down.
YouTuber John Campea also recently spoke about how he had been informed by someone connected to the situation, that they were right back to square one and that too many of the key players are not happy with the current iteration of the script.
There had been rumours that the “Blade” script was that the film was focusing less on “Blade” and more on its female characters, though this could no longer be the case.
This Production on “Blade” is also set to be delayed once again, as filming was schedule to start in the summer but has now been pushed back to the fall.
Disney CEO Bob Iger spoke earlier this year about Marvel’s schedule and how they want to release fewer titles each year, ideally just two or three movies a year, along with two shows on Disney+. With four Marvel films scheduled for 2025 and with more delays, it’s likely “Blade” gets bumped back again, since nothing has been actually filmed yet.
Roger’s Take: “Blade” is a prime example of why Marvel shouldn’t officially announce its projects until they are actually ready to do so. This film was announced over five years ago and with Mahershala Ali now over fifty years old, it wouldn’t surprise me if he bails on the project at some point because it’s just taking way too long to make. If filming does indeed start this Fall, it’ll likely still get bumped into 2026. But maybe this is just one project Marvel should just pop back on the shelf for another time.
