One of the first original series released by Marvel Studios was “Assembled”, which was a comprehensive documentary series streaming on Disney+ that chronicled the creation of Marvel Studios’ thrilling new shows and theatrical releases.

Viewers got taken on a journey behind-the-scenes of productions via exclusive on-set footage. The show was billed as an immersive, and in-depth examination of the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Between 2021 and 2024, over seventeen different “Assembled” specials were released on Disney+, covering all of the shows and films released by Marvel during that period.  However, the last episode to be released was for “Agatha All Along” in late 2024, and that episode of “Assembled” was released on YouTube, instead of Disney+.

Earlier this week, TVLine reported that they had heard Disney wasn’t planning to make any more “Assembled” specials for Disney+.

This shouldn’t come as a huge surprise, since there haven’t been any new episodes of “Assembled” for any of this year’s Marvel new releases, such as  “Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man”, “Daredevil: Born Again”, or “Captain America: Brave New World”.   This is a strong indication that “Assembled” has been cancelled.

It’s still possible that we could see more episodes of “Assembled” released in the future, potentially one for “Ironheart”, since that show was filmed a few years ago, so it’s likely that there was lots of behind-the-scenes footage filmed for a special.  However, it might depend on whether Disney feel it’s worthwhile spending time and money on releasing it.  Though Disney, did recently release a “Ironheart” themed episode of Legends on YouTube, which is another Disney+ original series that also seems to have been cancelled.

Roger’s Take:  While I’ve always enjoyed watching “Assembled”, it is very much a niche product that feels more like something you’d find in the bonus features section of a DVD.  While behind-the-scenes featurettes were considered a selling point for home video releases. it’s likely that Disney reviewed the viewership data for previous episodes of “Assembled” and decided it wasn’t worthwhile to invest in, especially with Disney+ trying to cut costs and Marvel Studios also attempting to slow down its own output.

The fact that we’ve not had a new episode of “Assembled” for over six months, is a good clue that that show isn’t continuing, but I still wouldn’t be surprised if a “Ironheart” episode dropped onto YouTube since it could have already been in the works for a while, since the show was originally supposed to come out a couple of years ago.

What do you think of Disney stopping its “Assembled” specials?  Let me know on social media!
