Marvel Executive Teases “We Will Have A Spider-Man Season Every Year”
Earlier this month, Marvel released the season finale of the new Disney+ Original series “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.” This animated series follows Peter Parker on his way to becoming a hero, with a journey unlike any we’ve ever seen and a style that celebrates the character’s early comic book roots.
A couple of years ago, it was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con that Disney had already renewed the show for a second season, which at the time was going to be called “Spider-Man: Sophomore Year”, since the first season was going to be called “Spider-Man: Freshman Year”.
Prior to the launch of the show on Disney+, it was also announced that Marvel had greenlighted a third season of “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.” This showed that Marvel and Disney had lots of faith in the series performing well, as it’s rare they renew a show prior to release, usually when they know it’s good.
During a recent interview with Marvel Executive Producer Brad Winderbaum to promote the upcoming Disney+ show, “Daredevil: Born Again”, Collider asked about when we would see the next season of “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” arrive on Disney+.
“We will have a Spider-Man season every year if I have anything to say about it. What usually happens, as you know, in animation, is that there’s a bigger gap between Season 1 and Season 2 than in subsequent seasons, and that’ll be similar in Friendly. We will have to wait a little bit more than a year for Season 2, but then after that, it should come out on an annual cadence, hopefully.”
Marvel has changed its strategy regarding its Disney+ releases in recent years, focusing on producing multi-season shows rather than single limited series. We’ve already seen three seasons of Marvel’s “What If?” released on Disney+, and later this year, two four-episode limited series will arrive on the streaming service: “Eyes Of Wakanda” on August 6th, 2025, and “Marvel Zombies” on October 3rd, 2025.
The initial reaction to “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” from fans has been positive, and by the time the next season arrives, the audience will be even larger as new people find the show on Disney+. Plus, with people knowing they’ve got plenty more episodes to enjoy in the future, they are much more likely to invest time into it.
2026 looks like it’s going to be an excellent year for Spider-Man fans, with not only a second season of “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” but also a fourth movie starring Tom Holland and a potential appearance in “Avengers: Doomsday”. I wouldn’t be surprised if the second season is dropped later in 2026 to take advantage of the new films.
Personally, I was surprised the first season of “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” dropped onto Disney+ in January, without being able to take advantage of the holiday season to sell more merchandise, but I’m sure we will see plenty of new Spider-Man merchandise in stores later this year.
The first season of “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” is available to stream on Disney+ now.
