Disney has announced that the National Geographic series, “Life Below Zero: First Alaskans”, will be coming to Disney+ in the United States on Wednesday, 14th September 2022.

From the multiple Emmy award-winning team behind the “Life Below Zero” franchise is “Life Below Zero: First Alaskans”. “Life Below Zero”, has provided viewers with unprecedented access to the daily hardships of living off the land (and water) in some of the most extreme conditions on Earth. Now, in dedicating an entire series to the native peoples of this harsh landscape, National Geographic’s cameras have been invited into a whole new world of storytelling, cultures and customs. “Life Below Zero: First Alaskans”, follows all-new series subjects: Alaskan Natives who are focusing on their right to preserve their threatened ways of life, doubling down on ancient wisdom to ensure its survival for the next thousand years. The strength of this new series is featuring native representation throughout the on-camera cast of indigenous people, but also prioritizing diversity within the production team, crew, and cultural consultants who have deep connections to Alaska.

When the Russians arrived by the 18th century, Alaskan Native peoples had been there for thousands of years, developing and perfecting sophisticated ways to thrive in the harshest of environments. Their traditions and methods have been passed down from generation to generation, and against all odds, they’ve been able to keep their customs and unique way of life intact. Yet, it remains constant danger of extinction. In the face of Alaska’s changing and brutal landscape, an ever-dwindling number of Alaskan Native peoples have but one recourse: to live as their ancestors did…and to teach subsequent generations everything about living with and from the landscape. In First Alaskans, this brand-new returnable observational documentary series follows a select few of the original inhabitants who are relying on ancient wisdom, as well as hunting, building and survival techniques, to ensure their survival for the next thousand years. This is a celebration of culture, tradition and incredible strength by an inspirational group of people who always manage to find a way to live another day.

This series has recently aired on the National Geographic channel in the United States. Previous seasons of “Life Below Zero” are also available to stream on Disney+ now.
