With the Coronavirus causing filming to be halted around the world, this hasn’t stopped the creative side of Disney from working, as many meetings have been done remotely, bringing together people such as screenwriters to work on upcoming projects for Disney+.

The latest rumor is that Disney has begun early development on a Kingdom Hearts project for Disney+, nothing has been officially announced but its being reported by well known journalists including Grace Randolph, Jeremy Conrad and Daniel Richtman.

This rumor has been going around for a while, but it looks like it might actually be happening.  Very little is known about the series, however it looks like its going to be an animated series, with computer animated graphics and the series should see voice actors like Bill Farmer who plays Goofy return to provide the voices of those iconic characters.  According to Emre Kaya, Disney had wanted to make the series, but now Square Enix is doing it and have already made a pilot with the Unreal Engine.

Kingdom Hearts is a very popular video game series, which tells the story of Sora, and his journey and experiences with various Disney and Pixar characters including Donald Duck and Goofy, in addition to characters from Square Enix’s popular video game series, Final Fantasy.  The game series has sold over 30 million copies worldwide.

As someone who has completed most of the Kingdom Hearts video games, I think this could be a huge success for Disney, since they can incorporate many different franchises into it, though they might need to simplify or reboot the story, since over the past 18 years, since the original game was released, the story is very complicated for beginners.

Again, this needs to be taken as a rumor as nothing yet has been confirmed by Disney.

Would you like to see a Kingdom Heart series or movie on Disney+?
