John Leguizamo Reveals A New “Ice Age” Movie Is In Development
One of the most popular animated franchises acquired by Disney from 20th Century Fox, was “Ice Age”. Over five theatrical releases, the franchise has pulled in almost one billion dollars at the box office and over six billion dollars in revenues. Plus, it has spawned some Disney+ Original releases like the spin-off movie, “The Ice Age Adventures Of Buck Wild”, and “Ice Age: Scrats Tales” short series.
The first film told the story of Manny the mammoth, Sid the loquacious sloth, and Diego the sabre-toothed tiger, who go on a comical quest to return a human baby back to his father, across a world on the brink of an ice age. In the sequels, the friends became a family, with more characters joining in on their adventures.
Back in 2022, following the release of the Disney+ film, some of the animators from Blue Sky released a 35 second long short film in which Scrat the squirrel, finally got his acorn as a symbol of their goodbye to the franchise from Blue Sky Studios, but it looks like Disney might not be completely finished with the “Ice Age” franchise!
Recently, on an appearance on the NPR (American public radio) quiz show “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me,” John Leguizamo, who plays Sid The Sloth in the movies, revealed that they are about to make “Ice Age 6.”
“I’m so happy to hear that. We’re about to do Ice Age 6.”
John Leguizamo also shared some information on how he put together the voice of Sid and how kids are often freaked out when he’s asked in person to do the voice.
Disney hasn’t officially announced any details regarding a new “Ice Age” movie, so it’s likely still in the early stages of development, but John has now publically said he is working on the project, so hopefully, we get to see confirmation of it soon, such as what it might be called, details on the plot and if it will be released in cinemas or released directly on to Disney+ like the spin-off movie.
You’ll find the “Ice Age” movies available to stream now on Disney+.
Roger’s Take: Officially, Disney hasn’t announced a new “Ice Age” movie is coming, but following the success of the previous movies and Disney looking to boost up its theatrical releases with established franchises, getting another “Ice Age” movie shouldn’t come as a huge surprise.
