Recently, it was revealed that ABC had decided not to move ahead with a new half-hour comedy series called “Josep”, which was going to star Jo Koy, who has an overall deal with 20th Television and followed the comedian as a recently divorced Filipino American nurse attempting to navigate dating, fatherhood and a very Filipino mother who loves to “help.”

The feedback to the pilot was that while it had some funny moments, it didn’t quite deliver as a whole.

While promoting his latest film, “Easter Sunday”, Jo Koy was asked about the pilot by Variety and said:

ABC passed and that’s fine. It was an amazing pilot. They reasoned that it was too close to the movie. But I do have another deal and I’m still gonna come at it with another angle and we will get a show soon.

I want another movie. Why go to TV when we could show the world what this looks like on the big screen? It’s our time. Yes, we are going into the theaters to watch this movie, just like you did with every other movie.

The pilot was created by Steve Joe, who is a co-executive producer on the Disney+ Original, “Doogie Kamealoha MD”. Along with “Fresh Off The Boat’s” Randall Park and Michael Golamco, who were are also executive producers on the project.

Had “Josep” been given a series order, we would have seen it released on ABC and Hulu in the United States and as a Star Original around the world on Disney+.

“Easter Sunday” is coming to cinemas this week in the US and is about a man returning home for an Easter celebration with his riotous, bickering, eating, drinking, laughing, loving family.

What do you think of “Josep” being passed on?
