Jennifer Lopez Developing New ‘Cinderella’ Series For Disney+

Disney loves to make new projects based on classic fairy tale characters, and a new project is currently in development for Disney+ by Skydance Television, Nuyorican and Concord.

The new musical limited series is going to be based on Rodgers & Hammerstein’s version of “Cinderella”. This isn’t the first time Disney has used this version of the classic story, as back in 1997, in a movie which starred Whitney Houston and Brandy, who recently reprised her role in the latest “Descendants” movie.

This new version is going to be told from the perspective of the fairy godparents. It has been written by Rachel Shukert, who will also serve as an executive producer and showrunner on the show. She has previously worked with Hulu on “The Handmaid’s Tale” and “Nine Perfect Strangers”.

Other executive producers include Jennifer Lopez, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Benny Medina for Nuyorican Productions; Sophia Dilley, EVP of Concord Originals and co-president of RKO; along with the former Concord CEO Scott Pascucci; and Bill Bost.

According to Deadline, there was a bidding war between Disney and Amazon for the project.

Since the project is still in the early stages of development, no other details, such as who will star in it or when it will be released on Disney+, have been released yet. It’s also not clear if Jennifer Lopez will appear in the show.
