During this year’s Marvel Studios panel at the San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel’s president Kevin Feige, announced to a packed Hall H crowd that the upcoming series, “Agatha: Coven Of Chaos”, would be coming to Disney+ during the winter of 2023, into early 2024.

However, as Disney starts to hype up some of the new original content coming to Disney+ in 2023 across its official websites and social media, the series is no longer being mentioned as a 2023 release.

D23 posted an article highlighting some of the new shows and films coming in 2023. However, it didn’t mention “Agatha: Coven Of Chaos”.  An article on the official Japanese Disney site also gave a sneak peek at some of the new content coming in 2023 and beyond, with the site not putting a date on the “Agatha” series.  The Japanese website has since been updated, with the paragraph on the “Agatha” series being removed.

Marvel UK also tweeted out a video, showcasing all of the logos of the Marvel films and shows coming to Disney+ in 2023, including “Agatha: Coven Of Chaos”.  But that tweet was deleted later in the day, indicating that something might have been incorrect about the 2023 lineup.

There has been lots of speculation about the upcoming release schedule, as feedback from fans and from viewership statistics from the phase four releases has indicated that there might have been too many releases close together and that the quality of some of the Marvel projects suffered due to a larger slate.   It’s not uncommon for Marvel Studios to move release dates for series and films.  And these changes can be for a variety of reasons. Shortly after the San Diego Comic-Con panel, Marvel moved the release dates of “Blade”, “Fantastic Four”, and “Avengers: Secret Wars”.

It was also recently revealed by the showrunner of “Echo” that the show might be delayed until late 2023, rather than arriving in the summer of 2023 as previously announced at the San Diego Comic-Con.

The initial announcement of a winter 2023/early 2024 release for “Agatha: Coven Of Chaos” might still be happening, but with five live-action series and three films, plus animated shows such as “X-Men ’97” and a second season of “What If?” on the official schedule, having a show or two potentially pushed back, might not necessarily be a bad thing.

“Agatha: Coven Of Chaos”, which will see Kathryn Hahn returning as the evil witch, Agatha Harkness, who was introduced in the Disney+ series, “WandaVision”.   The series will also star Aubrey Plaza, Joe Locke,  Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, Patti LuPone, and Maria Dizzia will be starring in the new Disney+ series. Also returning for “Agatha: Coven of Chaos,” is Emma Caufield, who will be reprising the role of Sarah Proctor, which she played in “WandaVision.”

Originally the show was announced during last year’s Disney+ Day event, and it was initially called “Agatha: House Of Harkness”, but at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, it was revealed the show had been renamed “Agatha: Coven Of Chaos”.

“Agatha: Coven Of Chaos” is being written by Megan McDonnell, Peter Cameron, Laura Donney, and Cameron Squires. “WandaVision” creator and exec producer Jac Schaeffer is also returning as the showrunner on Disney+ original series.  Filming on “Agatha: Coven Of Chaos” is due to begin production in early 2023.
