Hulu Acquires Ben Stiller’s New Holiday Movie, “Nutcrackers”
Disney has picked up a new holiday film starring Ben Stiller called “Nutcrackers” at the Toronto International Film Festival and according to Deadline, is the first major acquisition of the event.
The movie tells the story of a hotshot Chicago real estate developer, Michael, who never had time for family. His sister once said he was incapable of love. But when Michael’s sister and her husband have a terrible accident, their house, farm, and four boys become Michael’s responsibility. He drives out to his sister’s small Ohio town, thinking all he needs to do is sign some papers and get back to the city, but it’s not nearly that simple.
With the parents gone, the boys are practically feral. Until the family services worker can find them a home, their only guardian is Uncle Mike. Before he knows it, Michael is chasing chickens and providing improvised “health” classes. Desperate to free himself from inherited fatherhood, he’s both surprised and thrilled to learn his sister trained her boys in ballet. Can that make them cute enough to foster?
The new movie has been directed by David Gordon Green and also stars Linda Cardellini, Edi Patterson, Tim Heidecker, Toby Huss, Homer Janson, Ulysses Janson, Atlas Janson and Arlo Janson. The movie has been written by Leland Douglas and executive produced by David Gordon Green, Danny McBride, Jody Hill, Rick Steele, and Regina Steele.
Disney has paid over a million dollars for the rights to the film for Hulu and Hulu On Disney+, where it will be released in time for the holidays. However, it has not been confirmed whether Disney acquired the worldwide rights to release it as a Star Original on Disney+ internationally.
