Hilary Duff To Star In Hulu’s ‘Pretty Ugly’
20th Television is developing a new drama series with Kapital Entertainment called “Pretty Ugly”, which Hilary Duff will star in and executive produce.
The new show is being developed for Hulu and is based on the hit 2015 novel of the same name by Kirker Butler, which follows Miranda Miller’s mission in life, to make her ten-year-old daughter Bailey the most successful child pageant contestant in the United States. A former teenage pageant queen herself, Miranda dreams of endorsement deals, beauty brands, maybe even a TV show. Bailey, however, wants none of it. She’s been doing pageants since she was three months old and is burned out.
But Miranda can’t imagine slowing down. In fact, she’s seven months pregnant and already mapping out her unborn daughter’s future pageant career. While Miranda is busy building her empire, her husband Ray, a nurse with a hobby of taking random pills, has knocked up the eighteen-year-old granddaughter of one of his hospice patients; and her mother Joan, a widowed shut-in, is plotting a murder with Jesus. It’s all pretty ugly.
Hilary has previously worked with Disney on the hit kids show, “Lizzie McGuire” and most recently on “How I Met Your Father”.
According to Deadline, the new show will be directed by Silver Tree, who will also be an executive producer, along with Kirker Butler and Hilary Duff. 20th Television and Kapital are the co-studios on the project.
No other details on the project have been announced, but expect to see it released on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States and on Disney+ around the world.
