HBO Max Launches Today
Today saw the launch of WarnerMedia’s new streaming service, HBO Max, It comes with 10,000 hours of curated premium content anticipated at launch, HBO Max will offer powerhouse programming for everyone in the home, bringing together HBO, a robust slate of new original series and movies, and fan favorites from Warner Bros., New Line, DC Entertainment, CNN, TNT, TBS, truTV, The CW, Turner Classic Movies, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Crunchyroll, Rooster Teeth, Looney Tunes and more. HBO Max is priced at $14.99 a month and is only available in the United States.
HBO Max contains some major movies including “The Lord of the Rings”, “The Matrix”, “Batman”, “Superman”, along with lots of popular shows such as “Friends”, “Pretty Little Liars”, “The Big Bang Theory” and more.
It also has many key third-party licensed programs and films including 20th Century Studios and Disney. This is due to existing contracts that were signed years ago. 20th Century Fox signed at 10 year deal in 2012 for the United States, that would mean all new movies would go through HBO after their initial theatrical and home video releases. So family friendly movies such as “Spies in Disguise” and “Call of the Wild”, will go to HBO Max for a while, before they can go to Disney+. This doesn’t however impact these movies in other countries.
“Today we are proud to introduce HBO Max – a dream that was created and nurtured by an incredible team of talented executives who dedicated the last year-and-a-half to making it a reality for consumers nationwide,” said Bob Greenblatt, Chairman of WarnerMedia Entertainment and Direct-to-Consumer. “However, this is just the beginning of our journey. We will continue to innovate and evolve this one-of-a-kind platform that brings together beloved programming from across the WarnerMedia family and around the world, while also paving the way for the creative voices of tomorrow.”
Some of the Disney & Touchstone content available on HBO Max includes:

Most of these family friendly titles are already available on Disney+ in other countries, such as Mrs Doubtfire and X-Men. More 20th Century Studios movies including “Ad Astra” and “Ford Vs Ferrari” will be coming to HBO Max in June, along with more legacy 20th Century Fox titles like Home Alone.
Other noticeable additions to HBO Max is “The Right Stuff”, which Disney+ is creating a series based on. And there is also Spirited Away and the entire Ghibli Film Collection, which Disney originally released these movies in the US. However those titles are available on Netflix elsewhere in the world.
HBO Max does have a “Leaving Soon” section, highlighting what titles will be leaving the streaming service soon, which includes “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Roddrick Rules” and “True Lies”. Which should give us an insight into what could be heading to Disney+ and Hulu in the future.
