FX Developing New “Very Young Frankenstein” Pilot
Disney’s FX is developing a new pilot based on Mel Brooks‘ classic 1974 film “Young Frankenstein”, which is currently going by the working title of “Very Young Frankenstein”.
Very little information regarding the pilot have been revealed by Deadline, such as who will be starring in the show.
The original film, which was released by 20th Century Fox, was a parody of the horror films based on the Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel, “Frankenstein”. The movie is set several years after living down his family reputation, Frankenstein inherits his grandfather’s castle, where he discovers a book full of his granddad’s experiments and starts reworking on them.
It starred Gene Wilder as Frederick Frankenstein, who was the grandson of mad scientist Victor Frankenstein. It also starred Peter Boyle as the monster, Marty Feldman as Igor, Cloris Leachman as Frau Blücher, Madeline Kahn as Frederick’s fiancée and Teri Garr as Inga,
This new project has been given the blessing of Mel Brooks, who will also be an executive producer, along with some of the creators of FX’s other big comedy series, “What We Do in the Shadows”, Taika Waititi, Garrett Basch and Stefani Robinson, who will also be the writer and showrunner on the pilot.
It will be also be produced by Kevin Salter, who worked with Mel Brooks on the recent Hulu Original comedy, “History of the World, Part 2” and the upcoming movie, “Spaceballs 2”. 20th Television will be the studio behind the show.
As with any pilot, should the project get given a series order, we should expect to be released on the FX channel, along with Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States and as a Star Original on Disney+ around the world.
With “What We Do In The Shadows” coming to a close, it makes sense for them to move onto a new project and with so few comedy series being made now, hopefully this new version of the classic story can connect with a brand new audience.
Currently “Young Frankenstein” isn’t yet available to stream on Hulu or Disney+. Hopefully, it will be added soon ahead of this show’s potential launch.
