FX is develping a brand new mob drama series with Terence Winter about Salvatore “Sammy the Bull” Gravano.
The new series will chronicle the life of the former mobster Gravano who held a top position in the Gambino crime family and later testified against crime family’s boss John Gotti. It is described as an epic crime series about the most powerful gangster in history to ever turn state’s evidence and an in-depth look at the inner workings of the Mafia.
Terence Winter, who has previously created “Boardwalk Empire”. He has also worked on “The Wolf of Wall Street”, “Tulsa King” and “The Sopranos”. Terence will be be writing the series, with Antoine Fuqua is poised to direct the potential series, exec produced by Gravano, which comes from FX Prods. and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment.
Winter and Fuqua executive produce alongside Aaron Kaplan of Kapital Entertainment, rights holders Gravano and Ana Castañeda, Billy Malone, Nick Pileggi, J.J. Sacha, Scott Greenberg and Rick Yorn. Kevin Marco is the creative executive at Kapital.
According to Deadline, Disney’s FX was able to secure the series in a competition situation.
Roger’s Take: FX loves to make serious drama series and a new gangster show might be exactly what the studio wants, since it likes to mix things up with the type of shows it creates. It’s unclear when filming will begin on the new Sammy The Bull series, but as with most other FX series, I’d expect it to be released on the FX linear channel and on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States and as a Star Original on Disney+ internationally.
