Production on the latest season of “The Chi” was disrupted by the ongoing writers’ strike this week. According to Deadline, filming on Friday was cancelled, following a picket line already being in place. Production was shifted to another location, but there was also a picket line at this location.

“The Chi,” tells the story of those living on Chicago’s south side, who, on an average day, finds kids prepping for school as their parents head off to work, young adults trying to make a living, and the elders keeping an eye on things from their front porches. But in this tough neighbourhood, real dangers threaten daily to squelch dreams, and the simplest decisions can have life-or-death consequences. From Emmy winner Lena Waithe, “The Chi” is a timely coming-of-age drama series centred on a group of residents who become linked by coincidence but bonded by the need for connection and redemption.

The series stars Jacob Latimore, Alex Hibbert, Yolonda Ross, Shamon Brown Jr., Michael V. Epps, Curtiss Cook, Luke James and Birgundi Baker.

“The Chi” is produced by Disney’s 20th Television and airs on Showtime in the United States. The series is also available on Disney+ in many countries, including the UK and Australia.

No filming was completed on Friday, but it is slated to resume on Monday. The picketing on “The Chi” is part of a large plan by the Writers Guild Of America to cause as much disruption to filming as possible, to force the studios to come to the table to negotiate a better deal for writers, who started a strike in early May, following a failure to come to terms on a new contract.
