As we head into 2023, let’s take a look at what Disney-branded original content is being released by Walt Disney Animation Studios, Disney Junior, Disney Branded Television and other studios, which will be heading to Disney+ throughout the year, which includes lots of interesting new films and shows such as “American Born Chinese” and “The Haunted Mansion”.

And remember, this is just a list of films and shows that come under the Disney branding, so it doesn’t include releases by Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar, National Geographic, 20th Century Studios and Star.

Here’s a look at some of the Disney films and shows coming to Disney+ in 2023:

The Little Mermaid

“The Little Mermaid” is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. The youngest of King Triton’s daughters, and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.

“The Little Mermaid” will be coming to cinemas on May 26th 2023 and will be available on Disney+ later in the year.


The Haunted Mansion

Inspired by the classic theme park attraction, “Haunted Mansion” is about a woman and her son who enlist a motley crew of so-called spiritual experts to help rid their home of supernatural squatters.  Jamie Lee Curtis also stars as Madame Leota in the film, which releases in theaters next year before coming to Disney+


Wish

“Wish” is set to release in cinemas in Fall 2023– the Studio’s 100th year. An epic animated musical inspired by the legacy of films from the studio that asks the question: “How did the wishing star, upon which so many characters wished, come to be?” Alan Tudyk and Ariana DeBose, star in the film.  Peter Del Vecho produces, and Juan Pablo Reyes co-produces.


Duffy & Friends

Mickey’s favorite teddy bear, Duffy, is a favorite of fans in all three Disney resorts in Asia, and during the presentation, D’Amaro shared that Duffy & Friends will star in their very own six-episode, stop-motion animated series on Disney+ next year.

Duffy is the cute, loveable teddy bear handmade as a gift for Mickey by his sweetheart Minnie Mouse. Together, Duffy and Mickey travel the world sharing exciting adventures and making lifelong friends, including ShellieMay, Gelatoni, StellaLou and CookieAnn.


Rennervations

“RENNERVATIONS,” is an original four-part series that embraces Jeremy Renner’s lifelong passion to give back
to communities around the world by reimagining unique purpose-built vehicles to meet a community’s needs.
Behind the big screen, Jeremy is a construction aficionado, and he is heavily invested in the highly creative
fabricator culture that exists across the globe and hopes to change lives with these skills and inspire others to
do the same.

Peter Pan & Wendy

Directed by David Lowery and produced by Jim Whitaker, the live-action reimagining of the 1953 animated classic will stream  exclusively on Disney+ in 2023.


American Born Chinese

Based on the genre-hopping graphic novel by Gene Luen Yang, “American Born Chinese” tells the story of Jin Wang, an average teenager juggling his high school social life with his home life. When he meets a new student on the first day of the school year, even more worlds collide as Jin is unwittingly entangled in a battle of Chinese mythological gods.

This brand new series will be coming to Disney+ in 2023


Prom Pact

It is the height of prom season, but high school senior Mandy Yang has her sights set on a singular goal: attending Harvard. When she finds out she has been deferred, she is determined to do whatever she can to get herself off the waitlist, even if that means asking the one person who represents everything she abhors – popular all-star jock Graham Lansing, whose father is a powerful Senator and Harvard alum. Once Mandy becomes Graham’s tutor, she begins to realize there’s more to him than she thought, and perhaps something more to life than Harvard as well. When Graham’s father offers to recommend Mandy to Harvard, will she choose to take this boost, even if it comes at the cost of what she stands for?

This brand-new film will be coming to Disney+ in 2023


High School Musical: The Musical: The Series

After an epic summer at Camp Shallow Lake, the Wildcats return to East High where they prepare a stage production of “High School Musical 3: Senior Year.” But plans are disrupted when Principal Gutierrez announces that Disney has decided to make the long-awaited “High School Musical 4: The Reunion” movie on location at their beloved high school. Corbin Bleu, Monique Coleman, Lucas Grabeel, Bart Johnson, Alyson Reed and Kaycee Stroh will play themselves, resurrecting their “High School Musical” roles as “Chad Danforth,” “Taylor McKessie,” “Ryan Evans,” “Coach Jack Bolton,” “Ms. Darbus” and “Martha Cox,” respectively, and the Wildcats will play featured extras in the movie.


Iwaju

Coming to Disney+ in 2023 is “Iwájú,” an all-new original long-form series created in collaboration with Pan-African comic book entertainment company Kugali. The coming-of-age story introduces Tola, a young heiress from the wealthy island, and her best friend Kole, a self-taught tech expert and loving son from the mainland.

This brand new animated series will be coming to Disney+ in 2023


Chang Can Dunk

“Chang Can Dunk” follows Chang, a 16-year-old, Asian American high school student in the marching band, who bets the school basketball star that he can dunk by Homecoming. The bet leads the 5’ 8″ Chang on a quest to find the hops he needs to dunk in order to impress his crush, Kristy, and finally gain the attention and respect of his high school peers. But before he can rise up and truly throw one down, he’ll have to reexamine everything he knows about himself, his friendships and his family.

“Chang Can Dunk” will be coming to Disney+ in 2023


Crater

Crater is an upcoming American coming-of-age science fiction adventure film directed by Kyle Patrick Alvarez from a screenplay by John Griffin.  The film will be a coming-of-age story in the vein of “Stand By Me,” which will be set on a moon colony. After the death of his father, a boy growing up on a lunar mining colony takes a trip to explore a mysterious crater, along with his four best friends, prior to being permanently relocated to another planet.

“Crater” will be coming exclusively to Disney+ in 2023


 

The Muppets Mayhem

The comedy series follows The Electric Mayhem Band — Dr. Teeth on vocals and keyboards, Animal on drums, Floyd Pepper on vocals and bass, Janice on vocals and lead guitar, Zoot on saxophone and Lips on trumpet — on an epic, music-filled journey to record their first-ever studio album. With the help of a driven young music executive, Nora, the old-school Muppet band comes face to face with the current-day music scene as they try to finally go platinum.

This all-new Muppets series will be coming to Disney+ in 2023


Chasing Waves

In the wake of surfing’s Olympic debut in Tokyo, “Chasing Waves” shines a spotlight on the people and places that are defining Japan’s reach in the global surf culture. This character-driven documentary series follows multicultural athletes in pursuit of their dreams, paints a captivating picture of Japanese life and showcases what it takes to succeed in the international surf industry.

“Chasing Waves” is coming to Disney+ on Wednesday 11th January 2023


Gina Yei

Gina, a cheerful and creative girl, has a dream to write songs. Thanks to her lyric-writing abilities, she gets the chance of a lifetime when she wins a scholarship to the prestigious Caribbean Music Institute (CMI) on the island of Puerto Rico. It’s the best place in the world to study Latin music and the birthplace of reggaeton.

Gina Yei is coming to Disney+ on Wednesday 11th January 2023


The Proud Family – Louder & Prouder – Season 2

“The Proud Family” revival picks up the story of its central character, Penny Proud, and her iconic family: parents Oscar and Trudy, twin siblings BeBe and CeCe, and grandmother Suga Mama (and Puff!). By Penny’s side is her loyal crew: Dijonay Jones, LaCienega Boulevardez, Zoey Howzer, Maya Leibowitz-Jenkins and Michael Collins.

The second season of “The Proud Family: Louder & Prouder” is coming to Disney+ on February 1st 2023.


Superkitties

Set in the city of Kittydale, each “SuperKitties” episode features two 11-minute stories as the four kittens, cuddled up at the Purr ‘N’ Play playspace or out playing around town, receive a “SuperKitty Call” from one of their animal friends with a problem that only the SuperKitties can help with, usually caused by one of the comedic villains in the series: Cat Burglar, Mr. Puppypaws, Lab Rat or Zsa-Zsa. With plenty of super skills and gadgets at their disposal, the SuperKitties set off to thwart the villains’ plans and impart important messages along the way.

This brand new animated series will be coming to Disney+ and Disney Junior in early 2023


Pupstruction

“Pupstruction,” follows the adventures of the world’s first all-dog construction company, Pupstruction. It centres on Phinny, an innovative young corgi, who might be the smallest pup on the crew but proves that you don’t need big paws to have big dreams or big ideas.

This brand new series will be coming to Disney+ and Disney Junior in 2023


Hailey’s On It!

“Hailey’s On It!” follows Hailey Banks, a risk-averse but resourceful teenager on a mission to complete every item on her long list of challenging (and sometimes impractical) tasks in order to save the world. Hailey will be pushed outside her comfort zone to discover the greatness within as she systematically conquers her fears, whether she is winning a sand-building competition, wrestling a honey badger, eating a raw onion, or facing her ever-growing and complicated feelings toward her best friend, Scott.

This brand new series will be coming to Disney+ and the Disney Channel in 2023


KIFF

Set in a world where animals and magical oddballs tackle day-to-day life alongside one another, the series follows Kiff and Barry as they navigate school, relationships and their often eccentric community.

National Treasure: Edge Of History

Jess Valenzuela’s life is turned upside down when an enigmatic stranger gives her a clue to a centuries-old treasure that might be connected to her long-dead father. Jess has a knack for solving puzzles, and her skills are put to the test as she and her friends follow a series of clues hidden in American artifacts and landmarks. But can Jess outsmart a black-market antiquities dealer in a race to find history’s greatest lost treasure and unbury the truth about her family’s past?

New episodes of “National Treasure: Edge Of History” are being released on Disney+ throughout January and February 2023.

Idina Menzel: Which Way to the Stage?

Beloved Tony Award-winning actress and singer Idina Menzel’s many triumphs include iconic Broadway roles in productions of “Rent” and “Wicked” as well as the legendary voice of Elsa in Disney’s “Frozen.” Yet, one dream goal has evaded her grasp: to perform a concert at the world-famous Madison Square Garden in her hometown of New York City. From Disney Branded Television and Ideal Partners comes the joyous, inspirational and in-depth look at Idina Menzel as you’ve never seen her before. In “Idina Menzel: Which Way to the Stage?,” filmmaker Anne McCabe follows Menzel on a national tour over the course of 16 shows as she juggles the challenges of being a working mom with a gruelling travel schedule, all while preparing finally to realize her dream.

“Idina Menzel: Which Way to the Stage?” is coming to Disney+ around the world on January 20th 2023.
