Ellen Pompeo To Star In More Episodes Of “Grey’s Anatomy”
Later this year, ABC’s biggest show, “Grey’s Anatomy” is returning for its 21st season. The show follows a team of doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial who are faced with life-or-death decisions on a daily basis. They seek comfort from one another, and, at times, more than just friendship. Together, they discover that neither medicine nor relationships can be defined in black and white.
In the last two seasons, Ellen Pompeo, who plays Meredith Grey, who the show is named after, only appeared in a handful of episodes due to her filming another limited series called “Natalia” for Hulu/Disney+, though Ellen continued to get the top billing on the show, since she was still the series narrator.
In the season twenty finale, Meredith put in an offer for a house in Boston, so she could move in with her boyfriend, Nick, however according to Deadline, Ellen is going to be returning in at least seven episodes of upcoming season and she might even appear in even more, since “Natalia” is set to wrap filming later this week, this leaves Ellen’s schedule more open to appear in more episodes.
The new season will consist of 18 episodes, but due to recent budget cuts, many of the series regulars have had their roles slightly reduced to appear in fewer episodes. So many of the regular characters are going to be missing from a few episodes.
Roger’s Take: Ellen’s easier schedule over the past two seasons to make “Natalie,” the first non-Grey’s project she’s made in years, might have given her time to reflect. With Grey’s Anatomy being one of the most popular shows on Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+, I’m sure she’s not going to be taking a cut in wages! Plus, the show without the title character just doesn’t make sense.
