Sam Raimi Developing New Horror Movie “Send Help” For 20th Century Studios
20th Century Studios is developing a new horror thriller called “Send Help”, which is described as a two-hander horror thriller set on an island that is a mix between Rob Reiner’s Stephen King adaptation “Misery” and Robert Zemeckis’ classic “Castaway”.
According to Deadline, it is going to be directed and produced by Sam Raimi, who has previously worked on the “Evil Dead” franchise, in addition to working on “Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness” and the original “Spider-Man” trilogy.
The studio has yet to officially greenlight this project, and no official announcement has been made, but a deal has recently been made. Raimi will produce alongside Zainab Azizi from Raimi Productions. Zainab also took to social media to confirm the news.
“Send Help” will be based on an original script by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, who have previously worked on “Baywatch,” “Freddy vs. Jason,” and the 2009 version of “Friday the 13th.”
This film is expected to be released theatrically rather than being put straight onto Hulu and Disney+.
Roger’s Take: Horror movies have been having some great success at the box office, especially low to medium-budget films, which also go on to become popular on streaming, so it makes sense for 20th Century Studios to lean in on this genre more. It’ll probably be a while until we see this film hit our screens.
