Today, Disney has released its latest blockbuster movie, Mufasa: The Lion King, for rent and purchase on digital platforms such as Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home.

Exploring the unlikely rise of the beloved king of the Pride Lands, “Mufasa: The Lion King” enlists Rafiki to relay the legend of Mufasa to young lion cub Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala, with Timon and Pumbaa lending their signature schtick. Told in flashbacks, the story introduces Mufasa as an orphaned cub, lost and alone until he meets a sympathetic lion named Taka—the heir to a royal bloodline. The chance meeting sets in motion an expansive journey of an extraordinary group of misfits searching for their destiny—their bonds will be tested as they work together to evade a threatening and deadly foe. 

The digital release includes hours of exclusive bonus content for the whole family on the digital and Blu-ray release featuring a full-length Sing-Along version of the film, deleted scenes, featurettes and much more:

The movie will also be released in physical media formats, including 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD, on April 1st, 2025.   Disney hasn’t yet announced when “Mufasa: The Lion King” will be available on Disney+, but usually, it’s around the same time as the physical media release.

The original animated “Lion King” movie, along with the animated sequels and live-action remake, is also available to stream on Disney+.
