Disney’s “Freakier Friday” Theatrical Release Date Announced
Earlier this year, Disney announced it was making a sequel to “Freaky Friday”, called “Freakier Friday”, which will see Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan return to reprise their roles as Tess and Anna Coleman.
The new film picks up years after Curtis and Lohan’s characters, Tess and Anna, first endured an identity crisis: Anna has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate the challenges that come when two families merge, they discover that lightning might indeed strike twice.
Disney has officially announced that the film will be released in cinemas on August 8th, 2025 and also released a first-look image from the film has also been released:
The upcoming film will be directed by Nisha Ganatra and produced by Kristin Burr, Andrew Gunn and Curtis,
“Freakier Friday” also stars Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky and Rosalind Chao. Executive producers are Nathan Kelly, Ann Marie Sanderlin and Lohan.
The 2003 “Freaky Friday” movie, along with the original movie, plus the latest Disney Channel Original Movie, are also available to stream on Disney+.
Roger’s Take: With the release date now in place, this is going to be an interesting release for next summer, as we’re starting to see Disney return to small/mid-ranged movies again. We likely we won’t see it drop onto Disney+ until a few months later, plus it’s also a film that is likely going to be much cheaper for them to make and thus, doesn’t have to be a big box office hit to be profitable.
