For this year’s Earth Day, Disney Nature is releasing two new films on Disney+ based on the iconic Galapagos islands.

The main DisneyNature movie is called “Sea Lions of the Galapagos” and is narrated by Brendan Fraser, who has previously starred in “The Mummy” and “George Of The Jungle”.

Disneynature’s “Sea Lions of the Galapagos” dives underwater with Leo, a handsome sea lion pup whose lifelong quest to find his place in the world is fraught with challenges and filled with new encounters with an array of creatures, from marine iguanas and racer snakes to yellowfin tuna and huge Galapagos sharks.

To go alongside “Sea Lions of the Galapagos”, Disney will release a behind-the-scenes documentary about how they made the movie called “Guardians of the Galapagos”.

This new documentary is narrated by Blair Underwood, who has previously worked on “Longlegs” and “LA Law”. It gives us a behind-the-scenes look at “Sea Lions of the Galapagos” as the Disneynature crew captures intimate sea lion behaviours while showcasing the challenges that threaten the archipelago and the community of champions—the Guardians of the Galapagos—who work to protect this magical place.

Both films will be coming to Disney+ on Earth Day, Tuesday 22nd April 2025. I’d expect we will get some more information of these films, including a trailer for each film to be revealed in the coming weeks ahead of the documentaries release.

This will be the latest film from DisneyNature to come exclusively to Disney+, following the release of “Elephant”, “Tiger”, “Polar Bear” and “Dolphin Reef”. Prior to the launch of Disney+, DisneyNature used to give its films a limited theatrical release in selected countries.

Roger’s Take: DisneyNature movies feature some of the most beautiful cinematography in natural history films, and I personally like the system that they have. The main feature is aimed at families and children, while the behind-the-scenes documentary is more focused at adults, which I enjoy more. I’ve always wanted to visit the Galapagos and can’t wait to see how it looks in this film (especially in 4K!).
