Disney+ Working On Movie Based On NBA’s Giannis Antetokounmpo
Disney is working on a new movie based on the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks Giannis Antetokounmpo, for Disney+. He was recently named the NBA’s MVP in June and the film will focus on Antetokounmpo’s early life and his current career in the NBA.
He was born in Greece to Nigerian parents, Antetokounmpo began playing basketball for the youth teams of Filathlitikos in Athens. For the first 18 years of his life Antetokounmpo was effectively stateless as he couldn’t become a Greek citizen until he was 18. He played in the Greek basketball league before moving to Spanish team CAI Zaragoza. And then in 2013, he joined the NBA.
Giannis went on to become the first player in NBA history to finish a regular season in the top 20 across total points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks. He also received Most Improved Player in 2017.
The film has a working title of Greek Freak, which is his nickname. The project will see Bernie Goldman producing the film, with Arash Amel writing the movie.
