Disney Signs Multi-Show Deal To Bring Hit Shows Like “Big Boys” To Hulu & Hulu On Disney+
Disney continues to build out its licensed content for Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ following a new multi-title deal with Fifth Season, which includes the hit series, “Big Boys”, which follows the semi-fictional Jack, a closeted, shy student who is grieving his father’s death as he heads to university. There, he lives with mature student Danny, a lad about a town figure who is, in fact, trying to disguise his own mental health issues.
The series debuted on Channel 4 in the UK and stars Dylan LLewellyn, who previously starred in the hit comedy, “Derry Girls”.
Other shows included in this deal include “Bad Host: Hunting the Couchsurfing Predator” and the third season of “Run The Burbs”. No release details for when these shows will be available on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ have been revealed.
“Bad Host: Hunting the Couchsurfing Predator” is a documentary that tells the story of how a trip of a lifetime turns sour for three young women in Italy when they stay with a stranger who seems to be the perfect host, but they wake up one day knowing something bad has happened.
The Canadian comedy series “Run the Burbs” is about the Phams, a young, bold Vietnamese South Asian family, take a different approach to living life to the fullest while changing the way one thinks about contemporary family values and life in the burbs. Often the instigators of community events and always the first to know what’s going on in the neighborhood, the Phams have become the heart of their cul-de-sac. Through all the challenges and stresses of everyday suburban life, the Phams take on the world as a cohesive unit. The family members include stay-at-home dad Andrew Pham; Andrew’s free-spirited entrepreneur wife, Camille; teenage daughter Khia; and clever young son Leo. The previous two seasons of “Run the Burbs” are also available to stream on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+.
Travis Webb, SVP, of Americas Distribution at Fifth Season, said in a statement to Deadline regarding the deal:
“As one of the leading US streaming services known for curating some of the best international series and films from around the world – we knew Hulu would be the ideal home for these titles. From the hilarious and heartwarming comedy of Big Boys to the shocking and powerful true crime documentary of Bad Host: Hunting the Couchsurfing Predator – this deal offers something for every Hulu subscriber to enjoy.”
Both seasons of the hit British comedy series, “Big Boys” have been made available to stream on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ today.
Roger’s Take: Disney continues to build out its streaming service with licensed content and that doesn’t look to be slowing down anytime soon, since licensing is much cheaper than producing original content and also reduces the risk.
