Following the success of the release of last years Disney+ Original movie, “Stargirl”, Disney is now starting work on a sequel.

In the first “Stargirl” film, it follows an unassuming high schooler who finds himself inexplicably drawn to the free-spirited new girl, whose unconventional ways change how they see themselves…and their world.

According to THR, Disney is bringing back the creative team including its director Julia Hart and composer-musician Michael Penn, who will write and perform original music for the film, along with Grace VanderWaal, who is returning for the film and will be writing and performing some new original music for the film.

She will be joined by Elijah Richardson, who will be playing the romantic lead in the film, which follows Stargirl’s journey out of Mica, Arizona and into a bigger world of music, dreams and possibility.  Elijah Richardson has previously starred in “When They See Us ” and “New Amsterdam“.

Jordan Horowitz, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Lee Stollman are producing the film.  With Kirsten Hahn (who is adapting the script) and Jerry Spinelli (Stargirl’s creator) as executive producers.

Casting is currently underway for the new Stargirl film, which is the first Disney+ movie to get a sequel.
