Disney+ Orders “Last Kids On Earth” Pilot
Disney is developing a brand new live-action version of the popular bestselling book series by Max Brallier, “Last Kids On Earth”, which has been given a pilot order for Disney+ and the Disney Channel.
The series tells the story of what happens when monsters overrun the sleepy town of Wakefield, a mismatched group of teens must band together, not only to survive, but to become the unlikely heroes charged with stopping the End of the World.
Disney is going to be producing the film, which will be created by Chad Fiveash, James Stoteraux and Kevin Tancharoen. Chad and James have previously worked on “Gotham Knights”, with Kevin previously working on the Disney+ original series, “The Book of Boba Fett” and Marvel’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”
Chad and James will be working on the project as writers, executive producers and showrunners, with Kevin also executive producing and directing the pilot. The book’s author, Max, is also an executive producer along with Hillary Zwick Turner, Jennifer Twiner McCarron and Matt Hornburg for Blue Ant Studios.
The first book was released back in 2015 and has been followed up with a new book each year since, so there is plenty of material for the new series to expand for multiple years, should audiences respond well to it, if Disney picks up the pilot for a series.
No other details, such as who will star in it, nor when it will go into production, have been revealed, and as with any pilot, it is still in the early stages, and there could be changes made during the creative process, nor is it guaranteed that it will make it to our screens.
Disney+ is in desperate need of new live-action shows for younger viewers, and hopefully, this new project can help fill that void, though, as with any show featuring child actors, they’ll only have a limited time to take advantage of their ages before they get too old to play the characters.
