Disney Greenlights “Eerie Prep” Pilot

Disney has given the green light to a pilot for a new show called “Eerie Prep”, which is based on the popular “Eerie Elementary” children’s book series by Jack Chabert, for the Disney Channel and Disney+.

The series tells the story of what happens when Sam’s sister vanishes from the prestigious Eerie Prep, Sam Graves assembles a team of uniquely skilled students to uncover the truth behind a series of strange, supernatural occurrences—and to confront whoever, or whatever, is behind the disappearance.

The project will differ slightly from the book, as Disney will make some adjustments, including making the main character a bit older and relocating the setting from an elementary school to a prep school. They will also be gender changing the role of Sam Graves, who in the book was a boy; instead, for the series, Sam will now be a girl, who will be played by Madalen Mills, who previously starred in “Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey”.

Other actors set to star in the pilot will be Niko Ceci, Charlie Ellis, Madison Rojas, Michaela Russell and Alex Bar, with Hanna Huffman and Felicia Day guest starring. Ceci and Ellis will be playing Sam’s best friends, Antonio and Lucy. While Rojas will play Paxton, Russell plays Krla, Bar plays Devon, Huffman plays Quinn, and Day plays Dr. Brewster.

According to Deadline, the pilot has been written by David H. Steinberg and Keetgi Kogan. It will be directed by Eric Dean Seaton and showrun by M. Raven Metzner. They are all executive producing the project alongside Hillary Turner, Lindsay MacAdam and Brallier. Thunderbird Entertainment is producing for Disney Branded TV.

Roger’s Take: Disney has been trying to find new projects for its linear channel and Disney+, so looking for inspiration from popular book series makes total sense.  The changes from the book look to be necessary to appeal to the target audience they are going after.
