Last year, Disney announced a major multi-year deal with FOX, to get next-day streaming rights for Hulu for all of FOX’s entertainment shows.

Today, it’s been announced that Disney and FOX have agreed to a new multi-year agreement to extend the deal until January 2029.  This new deal is worth over $1.5 billion over the next four years for FOX, as the deal also includes a multi-platform marketing arrangement to cross-promote new content.

The deal means that Hulu and also Hulu On Disney+ will continue to have access to popular shows like “Rescue Hi-Surf”, “Kitchen Nightmare”, “The Masked Singer” and many more, the day after they air on FOX.

In a statement by Rob Wade, CEO of Fox Entertainment, regarding the deal:

“Our friends at Hulu and Disney Entertainment are exceptional partners, together driving ongoing mutual growth and strong results.  Through our new agreement, we look forward to expanding on this impressive track record and collaboratively shaping the future of television in today’s shifting media landscape.”

Lauren Tempest, General Manager, Hulu added:

“The long-standing, valued partnership we have with Fox has cemented Hulu as the next day streaming home for current Fox hits and out of season episodes of key Fox titles, and we’re excited to continue offering these scripted, unscripted and animated series to our subscribersOur collective marketing efforts, which will continue with this new deal, have generated impressive results and helped viewers successfully find the shows they want to watch, when they want to watch them.”

Roger’s Take:  This is a huge win for Hulu and Disney+ subscribers in the United States, since it gives them access to new original content consistently.   I had wondered if the deal was going to come to an end soon since FOX stopped mentioning Hulu in any of its press releases, but now it makes sense to extend negotiations while negotiations were underway.  It’ll also be interesting if FOX also starts to actually promote Hulu On Disney+ as well, since that is something new that didn’t exist when the first deal was made.
