Walt Disney Studios is now developing a new original musical film, that is tentatively titled “All Night Long,”will feature many of the greatest songs from Lionel Richie.   The upcoming live action movie is scheduled to be released in theaters first, rather than going directly to a streaming platform like Disney+.

According to Variety, Lionel Richie and his manager Bruce Eskowitz are producing the project along with Cavalry Media executives Dana Brunetti and Matt Del Piano.   The script for the film is being written by “Crazy Rich Asians” screenwriter Pete Chiarelli.

The project was pitched to Disney by Lionel in January and he has recently been working on ABC’s “American Idol”. International superstar Lionel Richie has a discography of albums and singles that is second to none. His music is part of the fabric of pop music; in fact, Richie is one of only two songwriters in history to achieve the honor of having No. 1 records for nine consecutive years. Other career highlights include more than 100 million albums sold worldwide, an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, four Grammy Awards, the distinction of MusicCares person of the year in 2016 and a Kennedy Center Honoree in 2017.

With many musicals based on modern superstars like “Rocketman”, “Mamma Mia” and “Bohemian Rhapsody” going on to generate huge box office numbers, its not a surprise to see Disney following suit.
