Disney Begins Third Wave Of Job Cuts
Earlier this year, Disney announced it would be making three waves of job cuts as the company goes through a cost-cutting plan to get Disney’s finances back on track to focus on profitability, to save around $5.5 billion dollars. The first wave of cuts happened earlier this year, and the second wave occurred in April. The third wave, which was expected later this summer, has now already begun. This final wave of job cuts is estimated to be around 2500 jobs. All three waves of job cuts are expected to total around 7000 jobs, which is about 3.2% of Disney’s total employees.
In the last wave, many of which were from the television divisions, and according to Deadline, it is largely spared this time with a small number of layoffs. These new job cuts also won’t impact front-line cast members at the theme parks.
While this is the last of the big waves of job cuts, smaller waves of job cuts are expected throughout the summer, as Disney trims down the company, following the pandemic, the purchase of 20th Century Fox and the overall economic climate, which is impacting many companies globally.
Expect more details on these job cuts to come throughout the week.
