Filming is currently underway on the second season of the Disney+ series, “Star Wars: Andor” in the United Kingdom, which sees Diego Luna return as Cassian Andor.  Filming began back in November and is expected to last until August 2023, so it’s unlikely that the second season will arrive on Disney+ until late 2024, since there will be lots of special effects, editing and more to do, once filming is finished.  Diego was still doing additional digital recording on the season one finale when the sixth episode was being released on Disney+ last October.

The “Andor” series – set five years before the events of Rogue One – focuses on Cassian Andor and his journey toward becoming a rebel hero. The tale is set against the backdrop of a burgeoning rebellion against a ruthless Empire, where people and planets are drawn into a conflict that will have far-reaching effects across the galaxy. It’s an era filled with danger, deception and intrigue, and one that will test the courage and resolve of a reluctant hero determined to make a difference.

In the second season, there will be twelve episodes and will cover the four-year gap between the first season and “Rogue One”, with each block of three episodes representing a year.During a recent interview with Variety, Diego shared why he decided to return as Cassian Andor:

“What this character does in ‘Rogue One’ is quite remarkable, and what we are building shows what needs to happen in someone’s life to be willing to sacrifice everything.  For me, this has always been a story where the people bringing change, the ones you can call heroes, are just regular people doing extraordinary things.”

Diego is constantly busy with filming on different projects, and while many Star Wars fans would like to see more seasons of the show, the actor shared why he’s glad there will only be two seasons of the show:

“This is the last season for ‘Andor.  It is just a two-season show, which is really important for my mental health. But knowing this is the end, I want to enjoy it and get the best out of this experience.”

“Star Wars: Andor” also stars Genevieve O’Reilly, Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller, Fiona Shaw, Forest Whitaker and Andy Serkis. The executive producers are Kathleen Kennedy, Tony Gilroy, Sanne Wohlenberg, Diego Luna and Michelle Rejwan. Tony Gilroy is also the creator and showrunner.

The first season of “Andor”, along with “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”, is available to stream now on Disney+.
