Last week, Disney released the latest Marvel Studios, “Deadpool & Wolverine” on Disney+ around the world and as you might have expected, after storming the box office, pulling in $1.3 billion and becoming the second most successful film of the year so far, behind Pixar’s “Inside Out”, the “Deadpool & Wolverine” Disney+ release was also a huge success.

The film sees Deadpool’s peaceful existence come crashing down when the Time Variance Authority recruits him to help safeguard the multiverse. He soon unites with his would-be pal, Wolverine, to complete the mission and save his world from an existential threat.

“Deadpool & Wolverine” pulled in 19.4 million views around the world on Disney+ within the first six days and has become the most-watched live-action film on Disney+ worldwide since “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”.  Disney previously said that the “Black Panther” sequel was the most-watched Marvel premiere ever, though it never actually revealed the viewership number.

In comparison, “Inside Out 2” pulled in 30.5 million views worldwide on Disney+ in its first five days.  Since last summer’s Hollywood strikes, Disney has been releasing viewership numbers more frequently.

This is the latest record “Deadpool & Wolverine” has broken. It became the highest-selling R-rated title in its first week on stateside digital platforms and the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time.

Shawn Levy directed “Deadpool & Wolverine,” which stars Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, and Matthew Macfadyen.

Kevin Feige, Ryan Reynolds, Shawn Levy and Lauren Shuler Donner produce, with Louis D’Esposito, Wendy Jacobson, George Dewey, Mary McLaglen, Josh McLaglen, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick and Simon Kinberg serving as executive producers.  The film was written by Ryan Reynolds & Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick & Zeb Wells & Shawn Levy.

Roger’s Take:  It’s not a huge shock to see “Deadpool & Wolverine” was a big success on Disney+, and it continues to show why Disney has shifted back to its theatrical first-release strategy, since it not only generally makes more money in cinemas and on digital, but it also helps boost the streaming release.  No doubt, over the coming months and years ahead, this film is going to continue to pull in viewers in large numbers.
