20th Century Studios has recently released the Bollywood film, “Brahmāstra Part One: Shiva,” in cinemas around the world and it is the opening chapter in India’s first original cinematic universe, the Āstraverse

Inspired by deeply rooted concepts and tales from India’s ancient history yet set in the modern world, “Brahmāstra: Part One— Shiva” is an epic story of fantasy, adventure, love and hope, told using cutting-edge technology and never-seen-before visual spectacle. The grand adventure features a stellar ensemble cast of some of India’s most beloved actors, including Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Mouni Roy and Nagarjuna Akkineni.

Set in modern-day India, the narrative is woven around the existence of Astras of power that have been protected by a group called the Brahmānsh since Ancient Vedic times. The most powerful of these Astras, named after the most powerful weapon of the Gods, is the Brahmāstra. A mysterious dark force is trying to wake the Brahmāstra, threatening the universe we know today. The new film sees hero Shiva (Ranbir Kapoor) journey into this magical world of Astras where he learns of his mysterious connection to the Brahmānsh and the Brahmāstra. Shiva discovers the truth both about his own destiny as a divine hero and about the great power that dwells within him, the power of Fire.

Disney’s Chairman, International content and Operations, Rebecca Campbell, recently spoke with the Economic Times at the D23 Expo about the success of Disney+ Hotstar, and she revealed the blockbuster film will be released on Hulu in the US and on Disney+ internationally.

We decide on different content pieces differently. For instance, look at “Brahmastra”, for instance. Though we are yet to take a final call, in the US, it will be available on Hulu, but in the rest of the world, it is going to be available on Disney+.

Last year, Disney closed down its Hotstar streaming service in the United States, shifting all of its Indian general entertainment content over to Hulu and the sports content to ESPN+.  However, in the UK and Canada, Hotstar still is operating, so it’s good to hear more Indian original content will be rolling out onto Disney+ globally.

“Brahmastra Part One: Shiva” has been a huge box office success, having grossed $45 million worldwide in the first ten days and is currently the number one film at the global box office.  It’s not been announced exactly when “Brahmastra Part One: Shiva” will be released on Hulu or Disney+, but its certainly going to be a popular addition when it is.

Are you looking forward to watching “Brahmastra Part One: Shiva”?
