Following on from the success of the live-action remake of ‘Aladdin’, it was revealed that Disney was working on a new spin-off for Disney+ based on the character, Prince Anders, which would see Billy Magnussen, returning in the role.

While it’s been a while since this project was initially revealed, since development slowed down because of the pandemic, there is a small update on the upcoming Disney+ Original.

During an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Billy Magnussen was recently asked about the Aladdin spinoff.

“It’s in development. We are in the stages of rewrites right now, and it’s still moving forward. Yeah, it’s really exciting … I loved making that character up, and to have the opportunity to create a world and a story with him in it has really been a treat. I love that. That’s what I really love about this industry; to play in such a way like that … To be the not-Prince-Charming Prince, you know? We always see Prince Charming, so I was like, ‘Let’s mix it up.”

Very little has been revealed about this upcoming ‘Aladdin’ spin-off series, such as what the story will be, but at the time of the reveal, it was reported that Jordan Dunn and Michael Kvamme, were writing the script for the feature, with additional work on the script recently carried out by Shane Andries and Chris Smith.  With Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich returning as producers.

No other actors are currently attached to the project, but hopefully, more details will be revealed soon.

Both the animated version and live-action version of ‘Aladdin’ are available on Disney+ now.
