One of the many films currently in development by Sony Pictures featuring characters from Marvel’s Spider-Man universe is, “El Muerto”, which will star Bad Bunny as the antihero Juan-Carlos Estrada Sánchez, who has only appeared in the Spider-Man comic books twice before and is a wrestler whose powers are handed down by ancestry in the form of a mask.

Bad Bunny has already stepped into the wrestling ring on many occasions with the WWE and competed in matches at the Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania and most recently in a match with Damien Priest at Backlash, which took place in Puerto Rico.   He has also appeared in the Sony film, “Bullet Train” with Brad Pitt.

Bad Bunny announced the new film at last year’s CinemaCon event and was scheduled to be released in cinemas on January 12th, 2024, but now it has been completely pulled from Sony’s calendar. Filming was initially scheduled to begin in August of this year in Los Angeles.  But with the writer’s strike currently still underway, and Bad Bunny’s tour dates, it’s expected that filming will be delayed.

The new film is set to be directed by Jonás Cuarón and has been written by Garrett Dunnet-Alcocer, who also wrote the upcoming DC superhero film, “Blue Beetle.”   And it is thought that Sony is looking to see how well that movie performs be

There haven’t been any other updates on the upcoming film, such as who might also be starring in it or what the film’s plot will be about.

Sony has many other Marvel films scheduled to come out over the next few years, including “Venom 3”, “Madame Web”, “Kraven The Hunter” and a third animated “Spider-Verse” film.   But with Superhero fatigue becoming more apparent with many recent film releases underperforming, it’s not a huge surprise to see Sony easing up on how many films it releases.
