“A Real Pain” Disney+ Release Announced (Canada)
Disney has announced that the new Searchlight Pictures film, “A Real Pain”, will be coming to Disney+ in Canada on Thursday 16th January 2025, which is the same day as when the film will also be released on Hulu and also Hulu On Disney+ in the United States.
The film tells the story of two mismatched cousins called David and Benji, who reunite for a tour through Poland to honour their beloved grandmother. The adventure takes a turn when the pair’s old tensions resurface against the backdrop of their family history.
This new movie has been written, directed and stars Jesse Eisenberg, who has previously starred in “Justice League”, “The Social Network”, “Now You See Me” and the FX series, “Fleishman Is in Trouble”.
It also stars Kieran Culkin, Will Sharpe, Jennifer Grey, Kurt Egyiawan, Liza Sadovy, and Daniel Oreskes. The movie has also been executive produced by Ryan Heller, Jennifer Westin, Michael Bloom, and Kevin Kelly.
This past week, Kieran Culkin won a Golden Globes award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture.
Much like with some other recent releases from 20th Century Studios, it’s likely the international release will be sporadic since the film was only released in cinemas in the UK this week and in Australia on Boxing Day.
Roger’s Take: The movie came out almost two months ago in North America. In keeping with the typical 60-day theatrical release window for Searchlight Pictures movies, it makes sense that Canada will get the film at the same time it was released on Hulu in the United States. With the awards season underway, it makes sense to try to get as much attention on this film as possible. I thought the movie was ok, which is why being able to watch it on Hulu and Disney+ is ideal, so you can make your own mind up on it.
