Disney+ Creating New Dutch Version of “Werewolves”
Disney is continuing to build out its international original lineup with a brand new Dutch original series, “Werewolves” aka “Wolven: Het Spel Van List En Bedrog”, which is based on the popular strategy board game.
This new series takes place in a remote forest village, where a group of strangers known as Villagers compete to win a prize. Hidden amongst them are Werewolves, a secret set plotting to eliminate players one by one and steal the prize.
“Werewolves” will be presented by Pieter Derks and Soundos El Ahmadi. The game has already been adapted into a series in France and Germany, but the new version with Disney will make a different version of it, similar to the “Traitors”, which also originally came from the Netherlands.
Disney+ EMEA GM Karl Holmes said in a statement to Deadline about the new show:
“Wolven promises to be a great show, with lots of intrigue that keeps you guessing. It’s the kind of show you want to watch together, and we’re delighted to be bringing it to Disney+ audiences in the Netherlands. Together with NPO, we can help great local shows find new and younger audiences, while giving our customers more local stories to enjoy.”
Disney has been building out its international original lineup and teaming up with local partners, including RTVE in Spain, ITV in the UK and ZDF in Germany.
“Wolven” is created by Fary and Panayotis Pascot, owned by Jaad Productions and Presque Prod, and originally co-produced, commissioned and broadcast by Canal+ in France. The format is represented worldwide by Studiocanal and Dreamspark and forms part of Banijay Entertainment’s third-party portfolio.
This new series will premiere on August 29th, 2026, on both Disney+ and the linear channel, BNNVARA on NPO 1, with new episodes dropping weekly.
As with most game shows, it’s likely that this version of the “Werewolves” show will only be available on Disney+ in the Netherlands, due to how the format is licensed out to different countries to create local versions, so don’t want alternative versions being released to compete.
