Seth MacFarlane Gives Update On The Future Of “The Orville”

Back in 2022, Disney released the third season of the sci-fi series, “The Orville”, on Hulu and Disney+, moving the show from the FOX channel to their own streaming service.

Set 400 years in the future, the series follows the adventures of “The Orville”, a mid-level exploratory spaceship. Its crew, both human and alien, face the wonders and dangers of outer space. In the new, third season, the crew of the U.S.S. Orville continue their mission of exploration, as they navigate both the mysteries of the universe and the complexities of their own interpersonal relationships.

The ensemble cast includes Seth MacFarlane, Adrianne Palicki, Penny Johnson Jerald, Scott Grimes, Peter Macon, J Lee, Mark Jackson, Chad L. Coleman, Jessica Szohr and Anne Winters.

During a recent interview with THR to promote the upcoming Peacock original series, “Ted”, Seth MacFarlane revealed some new details on the future of the hit sci-fi series, “The Orville”.

“I will be honest with you: Season four is written. It’s just a question of when we have the time to produce it.”

Seth continued to explain that he is the biggest problem with the new season not moving forward.

“The 10 scripts are done, I’m the problem. It’s [a matter of] when I can make that my year, with all the other stuff we have in the works. But we can hit the ground running when it happens.”

Over the past few years, Seth has spoken out during interviews on many occasions, stating that the show isn’t “cancelled” and that Hulu wants another season, but with Seth working on so many different shows like “Ted”, “Family Guy” and “American Dad”.

All three seasons of “The Orville” are available to stream now on Hulu and Disney+.

Roger’s Take: As a huge fan of “The Orville”, I’d love to see more adventures in space and hopefully, a new season can go into production soon.  I do wonder if a new season might have to go through some budget restrictions, as some of the episodes in the last season were bordering on becoming feature-length, and I could see that being tightened up by just making those a two-parter.
