Disney+ Secures European Rights For “Booba & Loola”

Disney has had lots of success with its preschool animated shows, such as “Bluey” and “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse”, which are some of the most-watched shows across all streaming services, with “CocoMelon” joining the ranks in 2027.

The next big new animated series coming to Disney+ will be “Booba & Loola”, which is effectively the sixth season of the popular YouTube animated show, “Booba”.

Last month, Disney made a multi-territory licensing deal with Kedoo Entertainment to secure rights to all seasons of the show to date across 16 European territories including the Benelux region, the Balkans, France, Greece, Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Italy, the Nordics, the Baltics, Portugal, Spain and the UK, with plans to premiere the series on Disney+ in the first quater of 2026.

Produced by Kedoo’s in-house animation studio 3D Sparrow, “Booba” is a non-dialogue comedy series currently in its fifth season, with 130 episodes (4-7 minutes each).

Aimed at children aged 2-8 and their families, the series promotes empathy, resilience, and curiosity through humorous, heartwarming stories. Each seven-minute episode follows Booba and his friends as they explore the modern world with childlike wonder

The new series, “Booba & Loola”, introduces a new lead character, Loola, the first female character in the Booba universe. She shows confidence, bravery and wit to help herself and Booba with new adventures. According ot the producers of the show, the introduction of Loola will give the storytelling a “fresh dynamic and stronger gender balance.”

Also being introduced in the new series will be Tiny Booba, a mischievous mini-Booba, who has a cute and lovable design and energy, which has been made with the Asian markets in mind.

Olivier Bernard, COO and Co-Founder of Kedoo Entertainment, said in a statement regarding the deal with Disney:

“Working with Disney and seeing Booba live on Disney+ is a great achievement for us. We’re thrilled to see the series continue to grow and reach new audiences, and we can’t wait to bring Booba’s joyful adventures to families across Europe.”

He added in a further statement to Deadline, regarding the new “Booba & Loola” series:

“Booba’s phenomenal success proves how digital-first content can spark worldwide engagement and growth. The arrival of Loola and Tiny Booba unlocks exciting new character development and audience connections.”

Roger’s Take:  Disney has been investing in licensing many different shows, and it’s becoming even more common that an animated show picks up steam and attention via YouTube first, rather than being commissioned from the traditional studios.  No doubt this new series will continue to generate plenty of engagement from families and younger audiences.
