Fubo Hits 1.63 Million Subscribers

Last week, Disney announced that it had completed its deal to combine Fubo’s business with Disney’s Hulu + Live TV business, which has resulted in Disney owning a 70% stake in Fubo.

Currently, Disney’s plan is for Fubo and Hulu + Live TV to remain available to consumers as separate, distinct services, each offering multiple plan options from skinny to robust at compelling price points. Hulu + Live TV will continue to be streamed in the Hulu app and offered as part of an entertainment-focused bundle with Hulu, Disney+ and ESPN Unlimited. Fubo will continue to serve viewers in the Fubo app.

Today, Fubo has announced its latest quarterly results, where it was revealed that its streaming television service has 1.631 million subscribers in North America.  However, its revenue between July and September has dropped 2.3% from the previous period, with $368.6 million.

By merging the businesses of Fubo and Hulu+Live TV, there will be many benefits, including reduced costs, better marketing and increased advertising with Disney taking over.

During the recent quarter, a new product called Fubo Sports was launched, which is a sports-focused product at a competitive price point, in over 100 U.S. markets with more to follow.

David Gandler, co-founder and CEO of Fubo, said in a statement:

“Fubo’s third quarter 2025 results reflect the strength of our execution and the growing demand for flexible, fan-first streaming.  We delivered record third quarter subscriber growth in North America and our second consecutive quarter of positive Adjusted EBITDA—clear proof our model is working. New offerings like our Fubo Sports skinny service and Pay-Per-View platform are giving consumers more choice and control than ever. And, as we combine with the Hulu + Live TV business, we’re poised to create a next-gen Pay TV company – built for scale, personalization and profitability. We’re energized by what’s ahead and remain focused on delivering value for viewers, shareholders and our programming partners.”

During the Q&A session, David also was asked about why Fubo and Hulu+Live TV are staying separated:

One is, I think this is one of the few cases of when companies combine that do not have any overlapping customers. Hulu + Live TV does not overlap with FuboTV. They’re similar, but quite different. We’ve been very focused on driving our sports identity, branding, and delivering capabilities for sports fans that I mentioned in my opening comments. Hulu has been more of a general entertainment bundle that has sports. It is very important for us to continue to provide consumers with optionality and flexibility. There is programming that we do not have on FuboTV today, obviously top-quality networks that are available at Hulu. This only adds to the spectrum of offers that we provide consumers at different price points along the demand curve.

Roger’s Take:   It’ll be interesting to see what happens in the future with Fubo and Hulu+Live TV, as while Disney states that the two services will remain separate, I suspect that, eventually, Hulu+Live TV will be merged into Fubo TV, ahead of Hulu merging into Disney+, allowing for the closure of the Hulu app.   Especially as the customers of Fubo and Hulu+Live TV don’t have much crossover.

Fubo operates as its own separate company, and there is a general consensus within the streaming industry.  While 1.6 million subscribers might not seem like a massive number in the grand scheme of the total audience, with the potential addition of 4 million from Hulu+Live TV, they are already the sixth-largest television platform, and that’s likely to continue to grow.
