“The Muppet Show” Returning To Disney+ With Sabrina Carpenter
Disney has announced that “The Muppet Show” will be returning for an all-new special on Disney+ in 2026, and it will feature the popular artist, Sabrina Carpenter, as a special guest star.
This brand-new instalment from The Muppets Studio and Point Grey Pictures will celebrate the show’s 50th anniversary and feature Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, and the gang as they return to the Muppet Theatre to put on a variety show filled with music, comedy, and plenty of chaos.
Disney also released a teaser image from the special with Kermit’s coffee mug on a table on set:
Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver and Alex McAtee from Point Grey Pictures will be executive producers on the show. David Lightbody, Leigh Slaughter and Michael Steinbach will also be an executive producer for The Muppets Studio.
Albertina Rizzo will write and executive produce the special. Alex Timbers will direct it and also be an executive producer. Matt Vogel and Eric Jacobson are also executive producers. Bill Barretta, Dave Goelz, Eric Jacobson, Peter Linz, David Rudman and Matt Vogel are going to return as the puppeteers.
“The Muppet Show” originally debuted in 1974 and aired weekly until 1981. Over the years, the show featured many guest stars, including Elton John, Paul Simon, Diana Ross, Liza Minnelli, and many others.
All five previous seasons of “The Muppet Show” are available to stream on Disney+.
Roger’s Take: Disney has been trying to find the best way to keep “The Muppet” brand moving forward, trying to keep existing fans happy while also appealing to a new generation. We’ve seen many different formats over the past few years, and returning to what brought the franchise to the dance is probably the best option. I also wouldn’t be surprised to if Disney is using this as a “pilot” to see if there is enough interest in bringing the show back for a new generation.
