Anthony Mackie Reveals Why He Ditched ‘The Falcon And The Winter Soldier’ Mask
Later this week, Marvel Studios is releasing a brand new film, “Captain America: Brave New World”, which sees Sam Wilson finding himself in the middle of an international incident after meeting with newly elected U.S. President Thaddeus Ross. He must discover the reason behind a nefarious global plot before the true mastermind has the entire world seeing red.
The film is a follow-on from the Disney+ Original series, “The Falcon And The Winter Soldier”, which picked up after the events of “Avengers: Endgame”, where the original Captain America, Steve Rogers, passed the iconic shield to Sam Wilson. In the Disney+ series, Sam teams up with Bucky, aka The Winter Soldier, and they go on a global adventure that tests their abilities—and their patience, with Sam eventually taking on the mantle of Captain America.
As part of the Disney+ series finale, Wakanda gave Sam Wilson a brand-new suit. The suit featured some googles and a half-helmet headpiece, which won’t be returning for the upcoming movie since Anthony Mackie, who plays Sam, said it was his “worst nightmare.”
During a recent interview with IGN, Anthony revealed that one of the conditions of him returning for the new film was that he wanted that part of his suit changed:
“Because I told them that I was never wearing that s— again, dude. That was hard. With the heat, the sweat, the fogged-up glasses, it was impossible. It was called a cowl. It was my worst nightmare. You can’t do anything.”
Roger’s Take: I’m not surprised they dropped the Mask was changed, since during the episode of “Assembled”, they showed that they had to do a lot of special effects to fix some of the issues with it, so not having it will save them lots of unnecessary visual effects. Plus, since Anthony hated it, making adjustments to please the star of the film can’t be a bad thing.
You can watch “The Falcon And The Winter Solider” on Disney+ now, and “Captain America: Brave New World” is coming to cinemas on Valentine’s Day.
