Zach Braff Reveals Why “Scrubs” Reboot Hasn’t Happened Yet
One of the most popular comedy series available on Hulu and Disney+ is “Scrubs”, which is set in the surreal world of Sacred Heart Hospital, where the staff is bizarre and the laughter is contagious. Fresh-faced J.D. and his fellow new medical residents weave their way through each unpredictable day with hilarious results.
The series starred Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, John C. McGinley, Judy Reyes, Ken Jenkins and Neil Flynn.
It ran for 182 episodes across nine seasons, where it aired from 2001 until 2009 on NBC and ABC. ABC Studios created the series, along with Doozer Productions, which is the production company of Bill Lawrence.
There have been rumours of a potential revival of the series, and recently, Zach Braff spoke with Entertainment Tonight, to promote the new Apple TV+ series, “Bad Monkey”, where he was asked about the rumours:
“I’m gonna tell you something that nobody else is gonna get, “Scrubs” is a Disney show. Bill [Lawrence] has a Warner Bros. deal. Once those two companies figure that out, I think the people will get what they want. I think it’s gonna happen.”
He was also asked if he was eager to reprise his role of Dr. John Michael “J.D.” Dorian, he replied:
“Are you kidding me? It would be so much fun [with] all my favorite people. We all still hang out. A lot of people who were on long shows say that, but it’s true. I was just on vacation with Sarah Chalke… I’m going to the beach with Bill next weekend. We’re all friends.”
Roger’s Take: I wouldn’t be surprised if Disney did try to revive or reboot “Scrubs”, but with Bill still having an overall deal with Warner Brothers Discovery until 2028, it might make the show too expensive for Disney to get around. Disney does work with WB on many different shows like “Abbott Elementary” and “The Bachelor”, so it wouldn’t be impossible, but the big question is, would the comedy style of “Scrubs” work over fifteen years later?
While we wait to hear if “Scrubs” is going to be revived, you can watch the previous seasons now on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States and on Disney+ around the world.
