It’s been over three years since Marvel Studios announced it was creating a brand new film featuring Mahershala Ali as the vampire hunter, Blade, at the San Diego Comic-Con.

But it looks like the project is starting to come together, as earlier this year, it was revealed that the film’s director, Bassam Tariq, was no longer involved on the project and so the planned release date of November 3rd, 2023, was pushed back to September 6th, 2024.

Deadline has revealed that Yann Demange has now signed on to direct the film. Yann has previously directed “White Boy Rick” and “Lovecraft Country”. Michael Starrbury will be writing a brand-new script for the film.

Filming was originally going to start earlier this year, but with the change in director and a brand new script being created, filming is now expected to start next year in Atlanta.

According to insiders, Marvel wants “Blade” to have a darker tone than other entries in the MCU and after weeks of meetings and pitches, the executives went with Yann Demange as they were excited about his pitch.
