Disney’s 20th Century Studios is developing a brand new entry into the “Planet Of The Apes” franchise called, “Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes”. This film starts an all-new chapter in the “Planet of the Apes” saga, picking up many years after the conclusion of 2017’s “War for the Planet of the Apes”, which will be released in cinemas on the Memorial Day Weekend, of Friday, 24th May 2024.
“Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes” stars Owen Teague (“It”), Freya Allan (“The Witcher”), Peter Macon (“The Orville”), Eka Darville (“Jessica Jones”) and Kevin Durand (“The Strain”). It will be directed by Wes Ball (“The Maze Runner” trilogy).
According to Deadline, William H. Macy has joined the cast of the film, though no details have been revealed about what character he will be playing. He has previously starred in “Jurassic Park 3”, “Fargo” and “The Dropout”.
The screenplay is by Josh Friedman (“War of the Worlds”), Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (“Rise of the Planet of the Apes”), and Patrick Aison (“Prey”). Joe Hartwick Jr. (“The Maze Runner” trilogy), Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver and Jason Reed (“Mulan”) are the film’s producers. Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping are the executive producers.
“Planet Of The Apes” is one of the biggest franchises in the 20th Century Studios catalogue and is based on a novel by Pierre Boulle, which has spawned two TV series and multiple films, with the first film released in 1968, spawning four sequels. There was then a reboot, directed by Tim Burton in 2001 and another reboot in 2011, with “Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes”, which was followed by two more films. Most of these films are available to stream now on Disney+ in many countries, including the UK, Canada and Australia.
