This winter, Searchlight Pictures is releasing a brand-new film about two mismatched cousins, David and Benji, who reunite for a tour through Poland to honour their beloved grandmother. The adventure takes a turn when the odd-couple’s old tensions resurface against the backdrop of their family history.

The film has been written and directed by Jesse Eisenberg, who also stars in the film along with Kieran Culkin, Will Sharpe, Jennifer Grey, Kurt Egyiawan, Liza Sadovy, and Daniel Oreskes.

When Is “A Real Pain” Released?

“A Real Pain” is being released exclusively in select theatres in the United States on 1st November 2024 before getting a larger release on November 15th, 2024.  It will be released in cinemas in Australia on Christmas Day and British viewers will need to wait until next year, when it gets released in cinemas on 10th January 2025.

When Will “A Real Pain” Be On Disney+?

Currently, no official Hulu or Disney+ release date has yet been announced. Since this movie is rated R, expect it to be released on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States after its theatrical run, while internationally, it’ll be made available on Disney+.

With Disney trying to increase its box office revenues after a few disappointing years, its current strategy for theatrical releases is generally to try to leave them exclusively in cinemas much longer than many other studios like Universal, to make more money and also retrain audiences not to expect the latest releases on Disney+ within weeks of release, like it was during the pandemic.

However, Disney doesn’t have a one-size-fits-all release pattern for how quickly a movie is released on digital platforms to purchase or on streaming services like Hulu and Disney+. For big, expensive blockbusters, they’ve been delaying most Disney+ releases to between three and five months after a theatrical release.

However, because Searchlight Pictures releases generally have a much lower budget, they are released on digital platforms and streaming services much quicker, sometimes just two months after a theatrical release.

But it’s important to note that this can vary between countries, which will impact “A Real Pain” much more since the UK release is two months after the US theatrical release. This will likely also result in the film getting a staggered Disney+ release globally.

Here’s how long some of the recent Searchlight Pictures movies have taken to arrive on Hulu/Disney+ in the US:

  • Kinds Of Kindness (70 Days)
  • Poor Things (89 Days)
  • All Of Us Strangers (62 Days)
  • Next Goal Wins (90 Days)
  • Theater Camp (62 Days)

Based on the previous Searchlight Pictures releases, I’d guess that “A Real Pain” won’t arrive on Hulu and Disney+ until January 2025. However, if Disney decides to rush its release if it’s underperforming at the box office, it could be a few weeks earlier.

What Time Will “A Real Pain” Be Released On Disney+
