Disney+ has had a huge boost in subscriber numbers due to Verizon’s deal to offer a free year of the new streaming service for select customers.

Verizon’s President and CEO Hans Vestberg spoke at an UBS Global TMT (Technology, Media & Telecommunications) investors conference in New York about the deal, saying.

“It beat our expectations, even though we had high expectations. It has exceeded our expectations in terms of pushing existing users to unlimited plans and acquiring new customers. I cannot comment on our figures, they have commented on their figures”.

The deal is available to 17 million Verizon unlimited wireless accounts and “a pretty significant number” of those are expected to take advantage of the Disney+ offer according to Verizon. He added:

“We know how to deal with great partners like Disney that have a great value for us,” he said. And he said the Disney+ agreement is “not [simply] about reselling a service…. It’s a business relationship where they are gaining a lot.”

Did you take advantage of the Disney+ Verizon deal?
